Get Darkness to Daylight ready with these top tips

Darkness to Daylight 2024 is fast approaching, and we couldn’t be more excited for Brisbane to unite against domestic and family violence as we enter a new decade of this special event.

To help you prepare for the big day, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know below so you’re ready to rise to the challenge.

Check in

Darkness to Daylight will start and finish at Queensland’s Parliament House, cnr of Alice and George Streets, Brisbane City.

A week before the event, we’ll send you an email with a QR code, which will be your ticket onto the track. On the day, head to the check-in marquee, pull up the code, and complete the check-in process to collect your wristband ready to race.

If you registered after the cut-off date of 21 May 2024, this is also where you can pick up your complementary race kit.

Fulfill your bookings

Ordered a breakfast platter as part of your registration? You can pick up your brekkie delights at the service bar, located at the QUT end of the Speaker’s Green inside the Parliament House precinct.

If you booked a marquee, or brought your own to pitch, head over to meet with an EMSA staff to confirm your booking and settle into your spot.

Bring the essentials

Unfortunately there is no secure bag drop at the venue. For this reason, we encourage you not to bring any valuables to the event, just the essentials - phone (with your QR code), water bottle, snacks, and warm clothes to rug up before and after the race.

We’d also love to see you sporting your Darkness to Daylight t-shirt so you can shine bright while making every step count!

Track your run

Darkness to Daylight is a symbolic event where we walk or run to honour those who are or have been impacted by domestic and family violence. If you want to track your run, you’re welcome to use your own Fitbit or Strava account to do so.

Want to track your training progress? Every kilometre you complete can be entered manually into the Darkness to Daylight website or by linking up your Fitbit or Strava account to automatically update your tally. To log your kilometres manually, simply login to your darknesstodaylight.org account; select ‘My Fitness Activity’; add the distance you’ve completed; and select ‘Save Changes’. To link your D2D account to Fitbit or Strava, login to your darknesstodaylight.org account; select ‘Connect your preferred fitness app’; follow the prompts; and select ‘Authorise’ to confirm your preferences.

Know the schedule

The opening ceremony, featuring a Welcome to Country, smoking ceremony and speaker remarks, will kick off the event at 6pm Wednesday 29 May. Each circuit will set off at staggered intervals throughout the evening and morning, before the closing ceremony’s final address and musical performances take place at 6am Thursday 30 May.

Start times are as follows:

  • 110km: 6:30pm, Wednesday 29 May

  • 10km: 5am, Thursday 30 May

  • 3km: 5:30am, Thursday 30 May

Be across venue amenities

Toilets/water stations
There will be toilets and water stations available onsite, with signs so they’re easy to find. The toilets will be near the start/finish line and there will be water stations along the route.

Parking
There is limited parking available in the city due to the timing of the event. We recommend carpooling or using a taxi/Uber etc. to get there, or booking a 24-hour car park in the city.

Food and drinks
Food and coffee trucks will be operating in the evening for overnight event participants. From 6am, coffee and drinks stations will be available at Parliament House for the morning crowd.

Confirm filming consent

There will be professional photographers and videographers capturing footage. If you don’t consent to being filmed, please contact us ahead of the event.

Run or walk with purpose

Darkness to Daylight is an opportunity to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and remember those impacted by abuse. As you traverse your course, we encourage you to take time to reflect on what we’re uniting for and how we can all play a part in creating a violence-free future.

We look forward to seeing you at the start line! For more information, visit our FAQs. If you have any other questions, contact our friendly team ahead of the event for assistance.
