#MeToo, how to assist someone who discloses abuse

With the high levels of recent media attention around sexual abuse and domestic and family violence and more recently the #MeToo campaign we wanted to give some very basic tips to assist someone when a disclosure is made.

Acknowledge the courage it takes to come forward
Listen and believe
Don’t judge
Allow silence
You don’t need to be the expert
Safety is the number one priority
Respond using empathy and reinforce support is available
Provide referrals options and make arrangements to follow up

If you or anyone you know is affected by sexual abuse, or domestic and family violence please do seek help and support.

Our goal is a world without violence and we are working every day with workplaces to try and make this happen!
