The Respect Challenge – At home with your family

Respect starts at home.

That’s why Challenge DV has teamed up with the Brisbane Roar to launch The Respect Challenge, a fun, family-friendly way to start conversations and build everyday habits of kindness, empathy, and respect.

This campaign invites families across Brisbane to take part in simple activities that encourage kids (and parents!) to understand what respect means, on the field, in the classroom, and at home.

Why Respect Matters

Respect is more than good manners. It’s about:

  • Listening to others

  • Playing fair and sharing

  • Using words that build people up, not tear them down

  • Valuing differences and showing kindness

When families model and practice respect, children learn skills that will last a lifetime.

Take the Respect Challenge Together

Here are some fun and easy activities you can do as a family:

1. Team Huddle Talk

Just like the Roar players huddle before a game, take a few minutes at dinner or before school to share:

  • One thing you respect about each family member

  • One way you showed respect today

2. Kindness Pass

Grab a ball (or even a rolled-up pair of socks!). As you pass it around, say something kind or encouraging to the person you pass it to.

3. Fair Play Game Night

Choose a board game or backyard game. Before starting, agree on fair play rules: no cheating, no name-calling, and good sportsmanship. Talk afterwards about what felt good when people played fair.

4. Respect Word Hunt

Create a “word wall” at home. Every time someone uses a respectful word or phrase (like please, thank you, good job), write it on the wall. See how many you can collect in a week!

5. Roar Role Models

Watch a Brisbane Roar match together (live or highlights). Point out moments where players show respect – like helping an opponent up, listening to the referee, or cheering on a teammate.

Share Your Respect Challenge

Take a photo or video of your family completing a Respect Challenge activity and share it on social media with #RespectChallenge and #RoarForRespect. You’ll inspire other families to join in – and you might even be featured by Brisbane Roar!

Join Us in Building a Culture of Respect

Together, we can make respect part of every conversation, every game, and every family.

Take the challenge today! Let’s raise the next generation to lead with kindness, fairness, and respect.
